Apr. 19th, 2019 01:23The past week or so has brought around a bit of an upheaval in my usual writing landscape, but it's not something I can say was unneeded. I'm back again to writing small fics focused around the new seasons, which is nothing new, but I'm also setting aside a long-term non-fanfic project temporarily after years and years.
I've had a lot of mixed feelings over the past three seasons, but for each season so far I've found at least one moment that I wanted to expand on or thread I wanted to supplement and I'm glad of that. At some point I absolutely want to do something with Wash and Carolina this season, what exactly that'll be will depend on what else unfolds or what inspiration strikes, but I'm sure something will come. I haven't really had to tackle the question of if, for most of my writing's purposes, I'm considering the 15-17 arc canon, but considering how the majority of my fics, published and planned, are centered on Freelancer or specific AUs... it probably won't need an answer for a while yet.
For now, I've thrown myself into working on planning something original. I've had an original project going for multiple years at this point, but as an idea spawned from when I was a teenager, it's in constant need of a lot of work and the more work it undergoes, the clearer it becomes I'm not quite ready to tackle it. And that, no matter what form it ends up in, it's not the kind of book I'll be able to start out with. So I have a new project, born of another old idea that has a much more limited scope and less groundwork to have to tear up and re-work.
Thanks to a little help and encouragement, I'm working on its basic set-up and characters. Whilst I have to work on my Masters work too, I'm hoping that by July Nano I'll be able to work on churning out a first draft of some of it. If not, there's always November after my qualification is over.
Either way, it feels good to have something I can actually work on without constantly feeling stuck. I'm hoping that energy carries over to any other writing I work on.
